sickness

What a terrible thing... sickness. You catch a bug and it just eats away at your energy, drags you down, turns your focus. I wonder how Jesus responded to getting sick?

There's a gentleman that I work with, who, though he is not a born again believer, has been quite an inspiration to me in this regard.  He has three young children and is in charge of a shop of 20. His shop works to find solutions to "emergencies" almost everyday. With the young kids at home, I know that he rarely gets more than 5 hours of sleep on weeknights...  There have been a couple instances where he has been pretty sick; sinuses flared up, coughing, etc., etc.   but I never heard him complain about his situation once.  He never called in to ask for a sick day. He never stopped working to solve problems and find solutions. He never stopped taking care of the 20 individuals that work for him and he never stopped caring for his family.  Other people and the completing the mission always come first.  He always gives 100%.

Where do I stand on that scale?? I guess I'm being convicted and reminded that a cold really is nothing more than an annoyance. Yes, my energy level is going to be a bit lower, and my desire to do certain things that I am responsible to do may be a bit lacking...

Let my ultimate inspiration be Christ, who had no desire to suffer the pains of torture, sin, rejection from the Father, and death, but chose to pray, “My Father, if possible,  let this cup  pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will.”  (Matt 26:39)
