The Adventure Begins

For anyone that has interest, I'll be tracking some of the highlights of my deployment here.  So far the adventure has just been in the travel.  Flights from Rapid City to Baltimore, a night there, a long day at the airport. Then 21 hours of flying on the same plane (with two 2-hour stops), traveling from Baltimore to Manas International Airport, Kyrgyzstan.  The food on the plane was pretty good, it varied based on where the food had been made, had some American, German and Turkish foods, all of which were good.

The Turkish food had an eggplant paste of sorts (I kind of liken it to mashed potatoes, but eggplant) to go with chicken and rice, a cucumber, tomato, feta cheese salad and baklava for desert (yummy!).

Since arriving at Manas, I've had a few briefings, took a much needed shower, picked up body armor and chem suits, had lunch and dinner (American style food), worked on homework and took a couple-hour nap at the suggestion of my wonderful wife.  I think I remember her saying something like, "you look terrible"

From here, I'll be waiting for a couple days until I'm able to catch a flight down to Afghanistan.  But for now, i'm going to go eat some midnight chow and get some sleep.  My internal clock is SO messed up!

  3. VTC lesson -- tape a fuzzy picture in front of the camera and you can look like whatever you want in reality. Or go the extra mile and make a cardboard cut out of yourself. Attach your head with a spring. Just nudge it every now & then and it'll look real!
