It's been a while since I've posted anything... most of life here has been day to day, nothing out of the ordinary really. Now that April has arrived, I'm in my 6th month of deployment. In fact, in just 6 days, it will have been exactly 6 months since I flew out of Rapid City to begin this grand adventure. All the folks that I arrived with will be starting their journey home around the 20th of this month, and I think that is going to be the hardest part of the deployment for me... knowing I've been here my six months, and watching the team that I've worked closely with head home to families, but still have another month to finish out. And on the other side, bringing in the new team, getting them spun up on how we do business here and prepping my replacement for success.
But, at the same time, I'm also excited. I know my team has accomplished some hurculean efforts. And this unit is much better than we found it. I'm excited for the opportunity that I'll have to spend a little bit of time with the next rotation and show them the great things that these men and women have done.
Please pray that as I get short in time and ready to go home, I won't become complacent in my responsibilities or safety, but will stay focuced and have clarity of what I need to get accomplished before I can say 'mission complete.'
Praying for you and for Anna during this final stretch!
ReplyDeleteHey Mike, I've appreciated your posts during deployment. It's been great to get an airman's perspective of life on "another world." Over the past six months we have observed tremendous growth and learned new things about you and Anna. In this post, I see sacrificial leadership coming through; a trait God values in his children ("being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Phil. 1:6). May God continue his work in you and watch over you.
