Not a whole lot going on today. Its a very quiet Sunday, had about two phone calls and 15 emails come in. So, I've been working on getting a webpage ready for the voting assistance program... Unfortunately, we've more or less been directed to develop webpages in MS Word, which is not exactly the ideal program for HTML coding. Plus, I'm trying to make the page look like the rest of the Wing's pages, colors, layout, etc. But Word is being rather difficult to work with.
I'm sure anyone reading this has heard by now that Anna and I received an assignment to Hickam AFB outside of Honolulu, HI. I'll be working for a support organization of the Air Operations Center there. Basically their job is to oversee military flying operations throughout the Pacific theater. I'm looking forward to Hawaii, definitely a change in scenery from South Dakota (which I have enjoyed immensly), but I am really looking forward t the job. I'm not entirely sure what to expect, yet, but supporting a day-to-day operational mission should be pretty interesting.
I haven't been outside really in the last 4 hours. It was a bit hazy then, but I've been told a dust storm has since rolled in. This is the third in about a week and a half. I was really enjoying the winter months, with cooler temperatures and a very minimal amount of dust in the air... but, I also know that with the advent of summer (there is no spring here), I am that much closer to completing my tour and returning home to my lovely bride. So, in that sense, bring on the dust!
As I do get closer to departure though, there is going to be a huge turnover in personnel. About a third of the military team that I've been working with for the past 5 months is scheduled to depart towards teh middle/end of April, including my right hand man. Due to some funky personnel tweaks that were done before and around the time that I arrived, his replacement isn't scheduled to arrive until mid-May, along with my replacement. So for the latter half of April and into May, I think life here will be much more about sustaining the progress that this team has accomplished and preparing to hand over the reins to the next rotation. But, for the next month it is full steam ahead... I'm really hoping to lengthen the list of projects that have been stamped "complete."
