So, I've spent most of the day today (my day off), working on research for a paper in my Church History class. Originally (last weekend) I was planning to write on the methods of discipleship in the 2nd-4th century church and how that compares to a biblical model and to today's model of discipleship. But, as I was going through the online resources at the library, I found nothing that was talked about discipleship in the early church....
My professor suggested maybe shifting the focus slightly to monasticism. So, researching that today, I came up with the topic of 'The biblical nature of monasticism' thinking I'd be able to show that overall that style of Christian living is only conducive to accomplishing parts of the discipleship process. In particular, monks are removed from society and sinners and as a result unable to accomplish the first step of evangelism. But, searching for any resources discussing both monasticism and evangelism (or the lack thereof) has also come up dry. *sigh*
So, now after sitting at my computer almost all day and feeling like I haven't accomplished anything, I'm a little demoralized. Maybe I could try to turn "Monasticism as a form of discipleship" but I'm still short on a solid thesis that will be specific enough to focus a research paper.
Thanks for reading my ramblings! Time to go for a run or something...
I was just thinking of and praying for you last night. It sounds like you are doing well and staying busy. How many sources do you need to have for your paper and do Bible references count?
